When you explore
The name generator runs in your browser. Typing a name does not submit it to a name-search service or to a public gallery. Images and fonts are hosted with the site. The site does not include advertising trackers or a third-party analytics script.
Your selected name, image choices and locks may be kept in browser session storage so they can move between the atlas and shirt studio. Design links also place that information in the part of the URL after the # symbol. Someone you share the complete link with can read the design. Clearing site data removes browser-stored selections; browser session restoration may preserve them when reopening a tab.
Print-quality downloads are unlocked by sharing the site. Whether you have done so is remembered only in your browser’s local and session storage (the name and letter choices of the design you shared, with a time). It is never sent to us. We cannot see or verify what you post on other services, and following a share link takes you to that service under its own policies.
A share link contains the name and letter choices you chose to share (for example /n?n=ada-lovelace&v=0120). When someone opens the link, or a chat or social app fetches it to show a preview, our host receives that request, including the name in it, and generates the preview image from it. We do not keep a list of these names. Only share a name you are happy for others to see.
Live activity counter and recent names
If the live activity feature is switched on, the home page shows a small dashboard: how many names have been written today and in all, and a short live list of recently written names, each shown as “Name was here” with a friendly greeting chosen from the name itself. “Today” follows the calendar day in India (IST) and resets at midnight there. When you save or download an image, share a link, or open the shirt studio with a name, that one name is sent to our server once. Typing a name, exploring and shuffling send nothing.
What is stored: the name as text (capital letters A–Z and spaces, up to 16 characters) and the time it was recorded. Nothing else is stored with it: no IP address, no location, no device or browser details, no account. To limit abuse, your IP address is briefly combined with a secret into a one-way code that is held only in the server’s memory for rate limiting, never written to the database or logs, and changes every day. Names that look abusive, or that contain links, handles or contact details, are not stored, counted or shown, and every name is checked again each time the list is displayed, so a name added to the block list later disappears at once; the owner can also hide or delete a name by hand; the same name is counted at most once an hour; only the name and time are kept, names are deleted after 30 days (the list holds at most 50 names and expires 30 days after the last one was added, and older names are never shown); only the running totals remain. Two bare numbers are kept for the counters: the all-time total, and a count for each day (each day’s count is deleted automatically after three days). The counters hold no names and nothing about visitors. While a name is counted, a short-lived marker keyed by that name is kept for one hour to avoid counting it twice. The feature is off by default and hides itself when it is unavailable. Never enter a name you would not want shown publicly in this list. To ask for a name to be removed, use the contact page. The data is held in a Redis database provided by Upstash through the Vercel Marketplace (Upstash is our processor) in the region chosen when the database is created.
Shop waitlist
The shop page may offer “Notify me when it opens”. If you use it, we store your email address, the time you signed up and which version of the consent text you agreed to. Nothing else is stored with it: no IP address, no name, no design. Emails are stored only for this waitlist and only if you tick the consent box; they are kept in a private database and are never shown on the site or available through any public page. Your IP address is briefly combined with a secret into a one-way code held only in the server’s memory to limit abuse; it is never written to the database or logs.
We use the address only to send you a message when the shop opens; we do not sign you up to anything else, sell it or share it, other than with our database provider (Upstash, through the Vercel Marketplace) as our processor. We do not send a confirmation email when you sign up. Each address is deleted automatically after 12 months at the latest, and all of them are cleared once the launch message has been sent. To have your address deleted sooner, use the contact page and tell us the address. The waitlist is off until a durable database is connected; if it is off, the form does not appear and nothing is stored.
Hosting and external links
Vercel hosts the site and processes request information such as IP addresses and technical logs to deliver and protect it. Its handling of this information is described in Vercel’s privacy notice. Following a map, NASA or GitHub link takes you to another service with its own policies.
When you order
If checkout is enabled and you continue to payment, the site sends your selected design, product choices, custom notes, name, email, phone number and delivery address to the payment integration. These details are recorded in the merchant’s Razorpay order for payment verification and manual fulfilment. We do not save your delivery form to browser session storage.
Razorpay handles card, UPI and other payment credentials in its checkout. Our application does not collect card numbers. Read Razorpay’s privacy policy for its use of data and cookies. Checkout loads that service only when you request payment.
Messages, retention and your choices
Contact information you choose to send is used to respond to your request. A public GitHub post is visible to others. Please keep personal or payment information out of public posts.
Browser design storage is temporary. Order and payment records, when ordering is available, are held through the merchant’s payment account for fulfilment, support and applicable record-keeping obligations. We have not set a separate fixed retention period for this pre-launch shop.
You can clear browser site data and contact the maintainer about access, correction or deletion of information you have submitted. Some transaction records may need to be retained to meet applicable obligations. This notice will be updated when the service’s data practices change.
